How To Explain Double Pushchair To A 5-Year-Old

Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around with a lightweight double pushchair, particularly if you have children of varying ages. They are easy to fold, steer and transport up and down the steps.

This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopy, and windows that peek out. It also features a smart frame that expands widthways to take a second seat and a compatible car seat(s).

Side-by-Side

The majority of light double pushchairs we've test are side-byside models and they're generally best for children that can sit up unassisted since these models tend to lack car seat integration. That said, the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both great options that provide adjustable recline in both seats, a large canopy, and padded 5-point harnesses. They're also easy to maneuver despite their bigger footprint and are perfect for parents who are worried about fitting into doorways.

The Cybex Duet is a little different because its clever frame extends its width to create another seat, making it smaller than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating on the market. This means it can fit through standard doorways and is easy to move around on public transport. It also doubles as a jogger which is great if you plan to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or a baby carrier.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another great side-by-side, lightweight double. It provides additional flexibility due to the modular frame. It features a clever design that allows you to transform it into a single stroller or a double by incorporating 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even take twins). It's a great option for growing families. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, most fashionable and most stylish available.

Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a tiny suitcase. It can be used either as a double or single by adding 2 carrycots or baby car seats. Our home testers were amazed by the ease of maneuver even with a load of kids.

Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't 100% foolproof, howeverIf your children are the same age or stage, they might still argue over who gets to ride in which seat. If they're different heights, a tandem model could be better for them, as it will allow them to confront each other.

Tandem

While side-by-side models are best for children with similar ages, tandem lightweight double strollers come with distinct appeals. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some have reversible seats or an extra carrycot in the middle. They are bigger, and easier to get in and out of. However the baskets they use tend to be smaller than the ones found on single buggies. Many feature larger canopies with windows that peek out and cushioned leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach is another example of a great value lightweight tandem. The fabrics are a little less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. But,  double pram pushchair  looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. Although it takes some time to master, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". It's not foldable with the carrycot attached however, the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is simple and fast.

Tandem lightweight double strollers will generally have a more precise turning compared to side-by-side models. However, they could be harder to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and more heavy to move. This puts strain on your back.

A convertible double buggy is another option. It is initially an individual, but you can add adapters to make it double. This can include the option of a second seat or carrycot in front, or the children can sit side-by-side. Some of them also have the option of adding a buggy board, which can help an older child keep up with younger siblings.

The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a twin-sized pushchair by purchasing additional cocoons at PS59 each. These cocoons create an area that is flat for newborns. They can be positioned in a row or joined to face each other and you can use them with the baby car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose a compatible one). These buggies for dual-use are made of quality materials that can be used for many years without showing any wear.  double pram and pushchair  means that they have a high resale price.

Single-to-Double

Ideal for families who love to be outdoors and are looking to upgrade their single stroller, this lightweight double buggy transforms into a jogger thanks to a nifty kit that includes air-filled tyres and all-wheel suspension. It can also handle rough terrain well and, as a tandem triple is ideal for twins or children of different ages. It's also a great choice for parents looking for a stylish design that's as sleek as a single and comes in a variety of colors for the fabric.

We loved the way this iCandy model folds down using a single-hand mechanism that's really simple to master. It's heavier than other single-to double pushchairs, but home tester Karolina says it's mobile even with two toddlers and carrying a carrycot.

The seat can be used parent-facing and you can purchase additional accessories for this stroller like the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) which are great for infants. Our test panel found that the seats were comfortable for toddlers, with excellent lumbar support and headrests. And there are plenty of options for recline and recline, with the front seat being able to be adjusted to different positions and the rear seat offering a recline option.

This kind of buggy has the biggest disadvantage of being wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways and it can be difficult to move up and down kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these strollers are generally able to cope with surfaces that are paved. They're also lighter than most side-by-sides, so you can still get a lot of storage. It's important to keep in mind that strollers of this type aren't as efficient in navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets and aren't able to handle a lot of shopping. It's a bit easier to turn around even on the smallest of curving paths but even this can be a challenge. Some are easier to turn than others models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

Convertible double pushchairs are great because they can be adapted to the changing needs of the family. They are typically single buggies and have adapters that allow you to add a second child's seat or a carrycot (in certain instances) a car-seat to the frame. Some even convert to a single as your older child begins to walk more or prefers to ride on a buggy board.

One of the lightest double strollers on our list, this stylish tri-fold model can carry children up to 40 lbs each. It comes with a handy basket in between the seats to store things. Home users loved its spacious canopy with peekaboo windows multi-position reclining seats, as well as front and rear suspension for smoother rides on rough terrain. It also comes with a handy cup holder for the parent and an ample, easy-to-access basket. The backs have tiny pockets, which are only sufficient to hold phones and a set of keys.

This lightweight, high-end side-by-side is available in more than 20 models. It also comes with a second chair and carrycot. It features a high-profile steering handlebar, rear and front suspensions to smooth rough terrain, an ultra-compact fold that can be folded up with straps that make it easy to transport and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks, and 10-inch back wheels that have suspensions to ensure an easier ride. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase a separate car seat or baby carrier.

This multi-functional tandem is the top choice of our home testers due to the fact that it is easy to maneuver and comes with a large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats when in the parent-facing position. It is easy to maneuver due to its light weight (about the weight of a few single pushchairs). The seats are reversible, which means that you can flip them to face either direction, and the clever way that it attaches the second seat or riding board to the rear is praised by many. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from a variety of brands, including some that don't normally fit in other double buggies.
